Even if you_re not in Texas you_ll be feeling the effect at the pump.Gas prices ALWAYS go up around Labor Day weekend, but I_m assuming even MORE so this year.That_s right. I_ll have more on that in a moment. But first I_ve got some numbers for what_s sure to be the storm_s HISTORIC price tag. If the early projections are to be believed Laura, Hurricane Harvey could be the the most expensive natural disaster in American history. This according to private firm AccuWeather. They put the cost of the storm at 160 BILLION dollars. That_s equal to the COMBINED costs of hurricanes Sandy and Katrina Houston is the fourth largest city in the country, and parts of it will be uninhabitable for weeks or even months as crews deal with the water damage. Texas is oil country, and the flood waters are having a major impact on production. 15 refineries along the Texas Gulf Coast have been forced to close due to flooding. That includes the Motiva plant in Port Arthur, which is the largest in the US All told, the factories account for a quarter of the nation_s refinery output, and that means drivers will feel an extra squeeze at the pump this long weekend Gas prices nationwide are expected to increase by 15 to 25 cents per gallon And I hate to say it, but Harvey isn_t the last major storm of Atlantic hurricane season. Tropical Storm Irma is now the 9th named storm and is gaining steam over the central Atlantic. Right now Irma is located about three thousand miles southeast of Miami. There_s no immediate threat to land, but Irma_s expected to grow into a hurricane by the end of the week. If Irma does make landfall in the US, the National Hurricane Center says it won_t be until after the long weekend. We_ll definitely keep an eye on it Don_t go away.
