Despite accusations of widespread fraud, Vladimir Putin has claimed victory in Russia_s federal elections. He secured roughly 65 percent of the vote, outperforming his nearest competitor by a four-to-one margin. Many are contesting the results however, and say polling stations nationwide were flooded with fraudulent names added to the voter registry. A series of protests are expected throughout the week. Putin served two terms as president until 2008, when term limits forced him to step down. He never fully relinquished power mind you, having spent the past four years serving as Prime Minister under his successor, Dmitri Medvedev d-MEE-tree mehd-V(y)EHD-yehf. US President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu net-in-YAH-hoo met at the White House on Monday to discuss Iran_s nuclear program. The 2 leaders got together only a few hours after the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency said the agency continues to have serious concerns regarding possible military dimensions. Let_s go now to Eila Adams for more on this story.EA) Vic, both men have made it clear that the Middle Eastern nation would be a genuine threat to Israel were it to develop nuclear weapon capabilities. Although Obama is stressing the continued use of diplomacy and sanctions, Netanyahu has refused to rule out a pre-emptive strike on Iran_s nuclear infrastructure. That being said, the Israeli leader has praised Obama for stressing that when it comes to keeping Tehran in check, all options are still on the table. EA) Here_s something you don_t hear very often - an actual APOLOGY from Rush Limbaugh. After a public outcry and the loss of several key sponsors, the conservative radio host is reeling in comments made last week about female contraception rights. Referring to law student Sandra Fluke_s congressional testimony, Limbaugh suggested she was a slut and a prostitute for wanting insurance companies to cover female birth control. He_s since recanted, at least SOMEWHAT, saying and i quote, My choice of words was not the best. And to put this in perspective Vic, as we all know he says a LOT of controversial things but he never apologizes. VS) Fascinating stuff, Eila. Have there been any rumblings that Limbaugh_s apology may be less about remorse and more about keeping his current advertisers? EA) There_s definitely been skepticism on both sides of the political spectrum. Many conservatives, including presidential candidate Ron Paul, have come out as saying Limbaugh_s retraction simply isn_t strong enough.VS) It_ll be interesting to see how this one plays out in the next few days. RW) You_re inside the Naked Newsroom. 1. PP) In a sign that his presidential campaign may be losing steam, Newt Gingrich has replaced his campaign manager and laid off a third of his staff. However, he insists he has no plans to drop out of the race. It_s simply a re-focusing effort. A spokesperson says they want to get the campaign convention-ready.RW) This comes as a new CNNORC International poll says that most Republicans - around 6 in 10 - want him and Ron Paul to quit the race. But, the news is better for Rick Santorum. Around the same number of Republicans want him to keep up the fight. 2. RW) Republican front-runner Mitt Romney is making friends in all the right places with some HARSH words for Russian President Dmitry mehd-VEE-EHD-yehf). He called Russia America_s Number 1 geopolitical foe, after President Obama_s open mic remarks to the Russian President earlier this week. Obama told Medvedev that he_d have more flexibility in dealing with Russia in regards to a missile defense program after the election.PP) Romney didn_t waste any time responding, saying it was a sign that Obama will cave in to Russia. He went on to say Russia is not a friendly character on the world stage. Medvedev fired back, saying Romney should Use his head. He went on to say that it_s 2012 - not the mid 70s, and that Romney_s comments smelled like Hollywood.3. RW) A ReutersIpsis online poll says that the majority of Americans are unhappy with the way President Obama is handling rising gas prices. 68-percent of respondents say they disapproved with Obama_s response - a number that crosses party lines, which could spell bad news in an election year. However, they don_t necessarily BLAME him for the rising prices.PP) The most common reason cited was greedy oil companies, with 36-percent blaming them. A further 26-percent say that it_s a number of factors, including oil companies, politicians, foreign countries, and environmentalists. Gas prices have jumped 30 cents a gallon in the past month, to around 3-dollars and 90-cents a gallon.PP) Prices like these make me glad I don_t drive.RW) You_re lucky. PP) Here_s Victoria Sinclair with the story.VS) Ladies, a sudden rise in the theft of Tide liquid detergent has forced some department stores to put it under lock and key. Tide normally sells for between ten and twenty dollars, but you can get it for half that price on the streets Police in Virginia recently raided the home of a suspected cocaine dealer and found more liquid soap than drugs Meanwhile in Minnesota, police arrested a man and charged him with stealing 25-thousand dollars worth of the stuff over a fifteen month period Forget taking over the world, a Quebec man is demanding control of the entire solar system Sylvio Langevin (French pronunciation) filed a lawsuit demanding to be recognized as the planetary proprietor of Earth, the Sun, the other planets, and even a few moons for good measure. Sounds cute, but Quebec_s Superior Court judge was not impressed He_s declared Langevin to be a quarrelsome litigant, meaning he can_t file any more lawsuits without permission from a judge. Langevin_s filed 45 lawsuits since 2001, including a 1 billion dollar case against the federal government in 2009. Kazakhstan has filed an official complaint of their own after suffering yet another embarrassment at the hands of Borat When Maria Dymitrienko won a gold medal at the Arab Shooting Championships in Kuwait, she stood upon the podium and listened as the organizers accidentally played the mock anthem from Sasha Baron Cohen_s hit movie. Your News Off The Top EA) It was a historic meeting in Washington on Tuesday, as US President Barack Obama met with Xi Jinping (SHEE JIN-PING), the man being groomed to be the next leader of China. Currently serving as Vice President of the Asian nation, Xi will replace current President Hu Jintao (HOO JIHN-TOW) as head of the ruling Communist Party later this year. Xi_s five-day tour of the US is aimed at boosting his profile in the West. The timing is particularly convenient for Barack Obama, who is looking to shift the focus of US foreign policy away from the Middle East and more towards Asia. EA) Meanwhile things are rapidly going from bad to worse in Syria. Locals feel that an all our war will be THRUST upon them sometime soon. Senior anchor Victoria Sinclair has more from Syria and joins us now with the latest. How_s it looking over there Vic?VS) Not good Eila. Syrians are bracing themselves for exactly what you just described, an all-out WAR in the beleaguered country. That is, if they_re not already part of one. The violence that has been crippling the country for the past year isn_t letting up, rather, it_s getting worse. According to one activist, snipers in Homs (HOHMS) are targeting civilians who are simply attempting to buy bread to feed themselves. Another claims that the shelling is happening randomly, making no place truly safe. There are claims that over 700 people have been killed in the last 10 days alone- the majority of them in Homs. In other news, crowds have gathered around a New Jersey funeral home where arrangements are being made for pop legend Whitney Houston. She_s scheduled to be laid to rest later this week, and rumours are swirling that a tribute will be held at the 18-thousand seat Prudential Center, home of the NHL_s New Jersey Devils. An autopsy has been performed, but authorities won_t release any details pending the results of a toxicology test, which will take 6 to 8 weeks. Those close to Houston say she was no longer an addict and are upset with the media coverage that has been focusing on her history of drug use. A tragic end to a troubled life EIla. Letis get right to the news, with word of a MASSIVE bailout in the Eurozone thatis giving the Spanish government some breathing room. Natasha Olenski has been following this story, what can you tell us Nat? NO) Eila, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy (mah-ree-AH-noh rah-HOY) is ecstatic over a HUGE bailout that_s aimed at rescuing their banks.EA) What kind of money are we talking about here? NO) It was a HUNDRED billion Euros which converts to about 125 billion dollars. EA) Wow, and here he was saying just a couple of weeks ago that Spain didn_t need a bailout. That_s MASSIVENO) And unlike Greece_ there aren_t many strings attached to the money. So YEAH, he_s a very happy man EIla. Welcome to the newsroom everone. Finance ministers in the Eurozone have agreed to lend Spain up to 125-BILLION dollars to bail out their failing banks. The country has been struggling under the weight of bad property loans and 2 recessions in the past 3 years. But theyire not out of trouble just yet. Despite the bailout n which will help small businesses and the self-employed n Rajoy says this will still be a rough year, with the Spanish economy shrinking by 1-point-7 percent. Add this to the current unemployment rate of over TWENTY percent and you see why Spain_s got a long way to go. A massive wildfire in Northern Colorado has forced thousands from their homes. The blaze was initially measured at just 2 acres early in the weekend, but has since expanded to an estimated TWENTY thousand acres. The wildfire has firefighters scrambling, trying to get local residents out of danger. So far, no fatalities have been reported. At least 18 buildings have been destroyed or damaged.Things could get scandalous within the Obama administration, after the US Secretary of Commerce was cited for 2 alleged hit-and-runs in California. Authorities claim John Brysonis Lexus was responsible for hitting a Buick twice in San Gabriel. He is also accused of hitting a second car in the nearby city of Rosemead. Authorities allegedly later found Bryson unconscious behind the wheel of his car. He was taken to a local hospital, but was released soon afterward. Initial tests came out negative for alcohol, but further tests are forthcoming. His office is saying that he had a seizure but that_s all we know right now Eila. EA) Do we know if we was on government business at the time Nat? NO) No he wasn_t. And because of it, he didn_t have a security detail either. EA) Bet the Republicans are frothing at the mouth with this one. The producers of Thailand_s Got Talent have been summoned by the country_s Culture Minister to answer WHY a 23-year old female contestant was allowed to paint a picture on stage with her breasts. Nudity on TV is a big no-no in Thailand_s largely Buddhist and conservative society. The government could take stern action. Even the show_s judges were shocked by the display. One of them said it was totally inappropriate, which is ironic considering she_s posed nude in the past herself (insert image). They really need to lighten up In other NAKED news, we all know nudity_s not much of a problem in Europe, especially in Denmark. That_s where nearly 250 shoppers recently stripped down to their birthday suits in hopes of grabbing some free groceries. It was part of the grand opening promotion of a store. The first hundred naked shoppers to show up got 275 dollars in free food. They were only expecting a few people but were thrilled with the turnout. And a man who_s ALWAYS working with naked folk - Mr. Spencer Tunick is in the news once again. The famed photographer recently gathered 17-hundred nude models in Munich for a special shoot at Max-Joseph Platz, outside the city_s opera house. Tunick was there to shoot his interpretation of a famous Richard Wagner opera. The project was commissioned to help promote the launch of the Bavarian State Opera_s 2012 summer season.
